Environment of consistent Christ centered discipline and values. A Catholic elementary school guidance program is also in place.
Accredited Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade by Iowa Department of Education. Past years Middle School 7th and 8th grade Honor Roll lists 70% to 100% of Sacred Heart graduates.
State of Iowa Certified teaching staff. Teachers attend community school curriculum, inservice, and grade level meetings to assure smooth transition to Spencer Middle School and High School. Two full-time aide and 4 part-time aides helping teachers help students.
All-day Monday, Wednesday, Friday Pre-KindergartenProgram for 4 and 5 year olds (Tuesday and Thursday is also an option for parents - some parent have chosen half or full days on Thursdays the first year, then the next year do the 3 or 5 day program). All-day everyday Kindergarten.
Area Education Association services of school psychologist, speech/language clinician, audiologist and social worker provided in our building.
Title I remedial reading assessment and instruction provided in our building.
Religious Education taught by staff teachers, Fr. Lingle, and Fr. Murray. Weekly children’s Mass prepared by the children.
School bus transportation to our school available as provided by the Spencer Community School District.
Breakfast and hot lunch program prepared by our own kitchen staff. State assistance for fees available.
Foreign Language instruction in Spanish for six weeks for grades 3-6. Professional artist on staff who is in each classroom 4 - 5 times quarterly.
Fifteen CCC Computers (in a lab) offering personalized instruction, Internet access in each room of the building and CD Roms in grades K-6, computer keyboarding/word processing instruction in grades 4-6, a second computer lab with 15 computers with Internet access, kindergarten lab with 6 computers.
Participation in citywide programs such as D.A.R.E. (6th grade), Decision making and coping skills training B.A.B.E.S. (2nd grade), R.I.F. (K-6), and R.S.V.P. classroom aides.
5th and 6th grade community band participation available. Music lessons available in our building.
Opportunity to participate in Math Olympiad, Math Bee, BEST Test and Presidential Academic Fitness Award. Grade 6 teams were AEA 3 Math Bee Champions in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2007. They took 3rd place in 2004 and took 2nd in 2005. They finished 5th in the state in 2003 and 2006. They were State Math Bee Champions in 2000 and 2002!!!
Traditional Christmas Program with Pre-Kg thru 6th grades. Family style Christmas meal shared by all grades.
Media Specialist working within a full function, in house library. Student Advisor here on a dailybasis for children to bring their problems to on a confidential basis.
